LATE TERM ABORTION

A May 11, 1974 article in the Vancouver Sun (Cocke to investigate late abortions) notes that then Hospital administrator Hugh Ross reported that a "fetus more than five months old was aborted"just two months previous. He continued to state "the abortion committee really clamped down after that one and we're not doing any abortions now over the 16-week period...that baby died because of the saline solution used in the abortion procedure".

The article continued with Ross pointing out "the board decided then that there is no really valid reason for performing an abortion at such a late date and fetuses at five or six months would not be aborted."

The news article also confirmed that a Surrey Alderman learned of an abortion "of a five-month-old fetus at Burnaby General Hospital within the past 12 months"..."that baby lived four hours after the abortion."
