Dear Honourable Ujjal Dosanjh:
This is to inform you that another "letter" has surfaced from an unidentified anti-choice group or person. At least three doctors in the Kelowna area received it on April 2. One of the mailings was postmarked with an address that appears to read: *------* . It is not clear how many copies have been sent out, or if it is being sent exclusively to doctors.
The mailing consists of a 5" x 11" card that is professionally printed. A faxed copy of both sides of the card is attached. Although the card has no identifying marks, the visual presentation of the card and the language -- for example, the phrase "you can call it choice or you can call it murder" -- suggest strongly that the card was printed by Life Dynamics Inc. of Texas, which has used similar layout and phrasing on materials it has distributed to anti-abortion groups.
(THIS SECTION SEVERED IN ACCORDANCE WITH
THE BC FREEDOM OF INFORMATION AND PROTECTION OF PRIVACY ACT)
In a country where access to legal, safe abortion services is already reduced by the retirement of older providers, these mailings constitute a real threat to continued access. Under the Canada Health Act, abortion services, like any other medical procedure, should be universal, accessible, comprehensive, and portable. These mailings, and anti-choice harassment in general, are making it impossible to fulfill Canada Health Act requirements, and are seriously crippling the right of women to choose and access legal and necessary abortion services.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
*Name Severed*
